Dental Implants (Full Procedure)
Getting dental implants is a great way to replace a missing tooth. Tooth implants are highly durable and are likely to last you for the rest of your life. At North Florida Dentistry, we perform the entire procedure, including all of its steps, so you don’t have to go back and forth between different offices to get it all done. Dental implants are done in stages, and the entire process can take six months or more, depending on your individual needs.
Getting a Dental Implant
There are three parts to a dental implant, and all three parts have to be installed for the implant to be complete. This is what can mean months of the process before it is finished. And, in between each of the stages, there is a time period set aside for your gums to heal before the next stage can be done.
The implant itself is made from titanium and is implanted into the jaw. This post acts like a tooth’s root, keeping it firmly in place. Then, there is the abutment. This part of the treatment will fit into the implant as a top to it. It fits in between the titanium post and the crown. The third part, the crown, is a replica of your tooth that is made of a special ceramic. This part goes over the abutment. After the crown is installed, it will be the only part of the implant that people can see. This crown will look entirely natural.
Dental implants are permanent, and they often last for the rest of a patient’s life. They offer a great solution to the problem of missing teeth. Some people aren’t good candidates for this procedure due to not having enough bone to hold the implant. Sometimes, a bone graft can be done to make the bone thicker and stronger. You will likely need a dental exam and x-rays to determine whether you can get a dental implant. Once you have an implant, it is taken care of just as your natural teeth- by brushing and flossing. You will still need your regular dental cleanings and oral exams.
The Look of Dental Implants
One of the top benefits of getting a dental implant is that it will look just like one of your natural teeth. They are indistinguishable from your other teeth, and they look incredibly realistic. They are made in the shape and color that will make them look the best in your mouth and with your other teeth. They even have a texture and shine that is just like your natural teeth. And like your natural teeth, you have to keep caring for it to keep it in good condition.
Keeping You Comfortable
One of our main goals when you get a dental implant is to make sure that you are comfortable the whole time. It’s common to sedate a patient so that they are asleep during the procedure. We want you to have no anxiety during your procedure as well as be pain-free. Talk to our team about your comfort so that we can make sure you are well-cared for and get the treatment you need.
At North Florida Dentistry, we want you happy at every appointment that you have, and getting dental implants is no exception.
