Periodontal/Gum Disease Treatment
Getting periodontal therapy is needed by many patients. Instead of referring you to a separate periodontist, we offer this treatment right here in our office. You may also be prescribed antibiotics and an oral rinse to help both your bones and your gums to heal. When patients have serious periodontitis or gum diseases, this treatment is often recommended. It includes the throughout and professional cleaning of the sockets that are around your teeth in order to keep the bone around it from suffering damage.
When patients have periodontal disease, the gums and the teeth can become separated from each other because of the buildup of bacteria. It’s important to make sure that this bacteria is taken care of for a healthier mouth.
Periodontal Therapy
We use the latest technologies to help you with your periodontal problems so that you get the best treatment possible. Getting periodontal therapy can help you with your overall health as well as the health of your gums. When you get periodontal therapy from North Florida Dentistry, it isn’t just one single way that you are treated for gum disease. We have several different treatments that can be used in periodontal therapy so that your gums get healthier and to get rid of the gum disease.
When patients are given periodontal therapy, the goal is generally to make the depth of the gum pockets smaller and to get rid of the bacteria that is infecting the gums. It is also to get rid of any bleeding as well as any odor from the mouth. The periodontal therapy that we provide tackles all of these issues and strives for you to have better gum health.
One of the more common treatments for periodontal disease is called scaling and root planing. This is a way to provide a deep clean that goes under the gum line. When our team performs scaling, this is a way to remove tartar and plaque that is both below and above the gum line. It also cleans into the tooth for pocket.
After the scaling process, our team will do the root planing portion. This portion of the therapy helps to smooth over the roots of the teeth so that the gums can become reattached to the affected teeth. You might also need to have antibiotics to help with the bacteria that develops in gun disease. You might also need to have an antibacterial rinse, a fluoride treatment, and you may have it recommended to you to get an electric toothbrush. These can be extremely helpful in helping you to keep your gums clean.
An antibiotic is also used in periodontal therapy. It is placed into the infected pockets that are there under the gum line. These antibiotics slowly work over time to get rid of the infection and kill the bacteria that has been affecting both the gums and teeth.
Gum Disease
Gum disease can be a serious problem, and not just with your mouth. It is often connected to other health conditions, including life-threatening ones. These can include heart disease, diabetes, and a number of other conditions and illnesses. Part of your overall health is the health of your gums and teeth.
If you are having problems with your gums, it’s very important to get treatment for it from us here at North Florida Dentistry. Talk to the dentist about the problem, and always engage with any periodontal therapy that you need to help with the condition.
